Currently, our office space is primarily used for administrative purposes--our programs mainly happen off-site and after-school at partner schools--but we feel strongly about creating more of a community space. We want to use the space to bring cohesion to our various programs that don't normally interact with each other. In other words, our organizational identity has always lacked cohesion. We feel strongly about having a physical location that all programs can use and that will add cohesion to our organization's programs.
Absent a "second space", we must reconcile the competing needs of providing workspace for a growing staff AND creating a community space that parents and youth feel comfortable coming to.
We hope to create a comfortable space for parent education workshops; we hope to screen films; we hope to become an educational resource center; and we hope to add light to a block that is plagued by drugs, mental illness and prostitution.
We would like to begin immediately. Our expectation is that our partner could help us with the following:
1. Sketch alternate lay-outs to our workspace
2. Identify low-cost solutions
3. Potentially link us to pro bono labor support
4. Perhaps help us find/locate a small second office space for our admin team
