How It Works

Steps for Designers

Step 1: Register your firm and make a pledge to pro bono service.

The 1+ program asks that firms dedicate a minimum of 1 percent of their working hours to pro bono service. That amounts to approximately 20 hours per employee per year.

Step 2: Complete your profile and post past projects.

Your firm's profile on the 1+ website can tell a story about your values, past contributions, project interests, and availability to take on new projects.

Step 3: Find projects and connect with nonprofits.

As a participant of the 1+ network, you have the ability to connect with any nonprofit project seeking a design partner, and registered nonprofits have the ability to contact your firm.

Steps for Nonprofits

Step 1: Register your nonprofit.

This step requests basic information about your organization. You can describe your mission and either confirm your 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or identify your fiscal sponsor.

Step 2: Complete your profile and post your design service needs.

Your profile provides an opportunity to post a project that describes your design service needs. The 1+ program reviews and provides feedback to clarify the service request before the project goes live in the matching system.

Step 3: Find firms willing to give their time.

After registering your nonprofit with the 1+ program, you have the ability to connect with participating architecture and design firms. With the click of a button, you can send your design service request for firms’ consideration.
