Project Description

Demoiselle 2 Femme [D2F] has provided after school programs to high school girls for more than ten years. In 2009, D2F announced its plans to build a state of the art facility for girls. The purpose of the H.O.P.E. [Honor Opportunity Purpose Endurance] Center for Girls is to inspire adolescent females ages 12-18 to achieve personal, academic, and social success.

Demoiselle2Femme [D2F] contacted LATENT DESIGN with the desire to produce capital campaign materials for a new community center in the south side of Chicago. After an initial meeting with the Executive Director and board members to review their mission, program and project schedule, LATENT DESIGN suggested a design charrette to occur in the following weeks with members from the board, the community and the young women that D2F provide programming for be in attendance and provide feedback. The wildly successful event not only clarified the vision and goals of the organization, which had little understanding of how a building and project moves forward, but it also allowed LATENT DESIGN to suggest modifications to the program and schedule that would allow for the design and construction of a 30,000SF community center.

The next step was to create capital campaign materials of the H.O.P.E. center that would be used for fundraising, community outreach, and political leverage. LATENT DESIGN created interior images of some of the key programmatic spaces and branded the spaces to reflect the successes of urban women. The building would pursue LEED Silver certification and incorporate urban agriculture and healthy lifestyles into the core after school curriculum. LATENT DESIGN will continue to work with D2F to identify strategic sites for the H.O.P.E. Center and continue with a contract to provide full architectural and design services.
