Blue Earth County Historical Society Master Planning & Expansion Study
To accommodate the future growth of the Blue Earth County Historical Society, ISG studied their existing building & future space needs to create a master plan for their existing location. The historical society wanted to know that the existing site could support an expanded building for their future space needs.
The existing building is a limestone building that was once a part of the lower campus of Minnesota State University- Mankato. The building was adapted to house the Summit Center, a senior social and events center and the historical society.
The "L"shape of the existing building could be filled in with a multi-purpose space to hold temporary or traveling exhibits, and still be flexible to host meetings and other community events. An expansion to the southwest would expand the museum/exhibit area, enlarge the archive space and provide a new dock that could add vehicle access into the exhibit space.
Project may move to Design Development in Spring or Summer of 2008
