Project Description

INMOTION is a community-based nonprofit support center for persons with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. Provided programs and services integrate the physical, medical and emotional dimensions of wellness. Visitors are welcomed into the Living Room with lounge seating, a wood slat wall and ceiling, and bright energetic colors. This space also serves as a pre-function and overflow space for the Multipurpose Room. This room is divisible in order to provide spaces for lectures, meetings and classes, including dance and yoga. A Doctor’s office and exam room is included within the InMotion space, providing a convenient one-stop-shop for patients and users to attend classes, therapy sessions and see a doctor all in one place. Other spaces include a Resource Library, Massage/ Reiki rooms, Group Therapy rooms and office space.

Great care was taken with flooring selections to assure that transitions from flooring materials are smooth and do not present trip hazards. A wide art gallery with handrails allows users with walkers and other assist devices to pass each other with plenty of extra space. Furnishings were tested by future users of the space to ensure ease of sitting and standing. Fabrics and other finishes were selected for ease of maintenance and longevity. A neutral flooring palette is highlighted with bright accent paints and fabrics, as the client wanted a space that was full of energy and life.
